The Effingham Hearts improved to 6-0 on the season in what Coach Ron Reed termed his team's best performance of the season so far, downing the Mattoon Green Wave 72-42 in Apollo Conference action Friday night. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Hearts started slowly and even trailed in the first few minutes, but then exploded, moving out to a 16-10 lead after one quarter. Then came the middle two quarters when the Hearts outscored the Green Wave 47-16 to lead 63-26 heading into the fourth quarter. Mattoon hit some threes in the fourth quarter to account for the final 30-point margin.
