Bulldogs 3-0 in NTC With Win, Area Girls Cage Roundup

ALTAMONT -- Effingham St. Anthony moved its National Trail Conference girls basketball record to 3-0 on the season with a 37-25 win over Altamont Monday evening.

The Bulldogs took a 6-2 opening quarter lead as Abbie Schmidt knocked in a basket and Meg Richards connected on four of four free throws.

St. Anthony pushed that to 21-9 at halftime as Sydney Gibson scored seven points. Gibson finished with 13 to lead the Bulldogs. Abby Weis pulled down seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in the conference, 7-3 overall.

Altamont was led by Taylor Paquette with six points.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity contest 41-16.

Teutopolis traveled to Salem and picked up a 57-41 win over the host Wildcats Monday evening.

T-town edged out to a 27-22 halftime lead then had a 19-11 third quarter. Jamie Sandschafer led the way for the Wooden Shoes with 17 points while Macy Michels scored 12. Sadie Bueker and Shelby Thompson pulled down five rebounds each. Bueker had three steals.

Neoga took the early lead and never let up in a 51-26 National Trail Conference victory over South Central Monday evening.

Two players scored in double figures for the Indians. Taylor Jones scored 14, connecting on three trifectas, while Maddie Craig tallied 12.

South Central was led by Abby Hahn with 12 points.

"We didn't start out the game well," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "Coming out at the start of games has been part of our problems this year. The second quarter allowed Neoga to pretty well put the game away. Tonight, turnovers without getting shots really hurt us. Neoga is a good team and we don't match up well with their size."

The Cougars dropped to 0-4 in the NTC, 1-5 overall.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 41-38 in a National Trail Conference matchup Monday evening.

CHBC took a 5-3 opening quarter lead but WSS came back with a 14-5 run to lead 17-10 at halftime. CHBC mounted a rally for a 9-2 third period to tie the score at 19-19. In the final period, the Hatchets pulled out the win with 22-19 run.

Megan Schlechte tallied 14 while Nikki Trussell chipped in with 11 and Madison Everett added 10.

CHBC was led by Lauren Wojcik with nine points.

Oblong held a 15-12 opening quarter lead and led 25-18 at halftime. Oblong then had a 26-11 second half.

Abbie Dart tallied 17, Summer Johnson 12 and Nyah Laino 10 for the winners.

Dieterich was led by Jennifer Robards with 14 and Anna Shadle with 11. Shadle pulled down five rebounds. Gracie Britton had two assists and two steals. Andrea Bierman added two steals.

The Movin' Maroons drop to 1-10.

The Eagles took a 27-15 halftime lead then had a 30-24 second half.

Grace Hartrich, a 5-foot-11 senior, led the way for the Eagles with 26 points. Abby Frohning chipped in with 11. Hartrich also led in rebounds with 12. Frohning led in steals with six and assists with four.

Newton is now 6-3 on the season.

The Eagles also won the junior varsity game 43-26.
