SIGEL -- Dieterich and North Clay (Louisville) advanced in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

In consolation bracket action, North Clay downed Altamont 43-21. North Clay edged ahead 12-5 in the opening quarter and pushed that to 25-10 at halftime. Two players led the way with eight points each, Bryton Griffy and Layton Dawkins.

Altamont was led by Scott with nine points.

In the second contest, Dieterich picked up a 42-34 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

North Clay and Dieterich will meet for the consolation championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

In action tonight, Sigel St. Michael faces Neoga at 6:15 followed by Stewardson-Strasburg taking on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 7:30 in winner bracket play.  The winners advance to the championship game Thursday at 8 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6:45.

At Effingham

Centralia came to Effingham and picked up two victories over the Mustangs.

In seventh-grade play, Centralia claimed a 48-34 victory. Centralia held a 26-13 halftime lead.

EJHS was led by Pals and Matteson with 11 points each. The Mustangs drop to 2-9.

In eighth-grade action, Centralia claimed a 51-48 win. Centralia connected on five of eight from the three-point line for 63 percent shooting. Centralia only made two of 10 from the free throw line but the two points they made put them up 51-48 from 49-48.

Effingham connected on only 25 percent from three point range. Wolfe tallied 23 while Duncan added 13 for the Mustangs. Briggerman had 11 rebounds. Wolfe, Thompson and Duncan had five boards each while Logan had four. The Mustangs drop to 8-3.

At Flora

St. Anthony continues to roll along as the Bullpups beat Flora Floyd Henson in both games.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Anthony picked up a 27-17 win. Angelo Mendella tallied eight points to lead the Bullpups who improve to 8-3.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony trailed Flora 10-9 after the opening quarter but came back to take a 22-15 halftime lead. The Bullpups then had a 22-16 second half.

Walsh tallied 19 and Moore 12 for the winners who improve to 8-1 overall.

At Bridgeport

Jasper County and Red Hill (Bridgeport) split victories Monday evening.

Jasper County was a 43-25 winner in seventh-grade play. Tharp tallied 16 for the winners who improve to 7-4.

In the eighth-grade contest, Red Hill was a 45-27 winner. Zumbahlen led Jasper County with 10 points as the squad dropped to 0-11.
