Effingham Junior High School captured two victories over Dieterich in boys basketball action Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game 48-38 in overtime to improve to 2-6. Effingham held a 20-18 halftime lead then had a 28-22 lead going into the final quarter. Dieterich came back to tie the score at 36-36 sending the game into overtime. The Mustangs then had a 12-2 overtime run.

Matteson led Effingham with 13 points while Volpi and Fox added 10 each. Dieterich was led by Budde with 14.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham took the early lead and never looked back in a 55-24 win.

Duncan tallied 15 for the Mustangs who improve to 7-1. N. Thompson led in steals with five and had six rebounds. Duncan pulled down 11 boards. Dieterich was led by Gephart with eight points.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony picked up two victories over Jasper County Monday.

In the seventh-grade contest, the Bullpups stepped out to a 30-14 halftime lead and never looked back. Niebrugge scored 17 and Blanchette 13 for the winners. Meinhart scored 11 for Jasper County.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 50-18 winner with 25-2 opening quarter. Antrim scored 13 and Walsh 10 for the winners. Einhorn scored seven for Jasper County.

At St. Elmo

Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a 39-11 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown in seventh-grade competition Monday evening.

Wernsing led the way for the winners with 12 points while Kirby added eight. SEB was led by Maxey with four. Stew-Stras improves to 3-2 in the National Trail Conference, 5-5 overall.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Elmo/Brownstown was a 42-4 winner. SEB led 21-2 after the opening quarter. Rosborough led nine players in scoring with 11 points for the winners. Stew-Stras only points came from Rieman with four.

Stew-Stras drops to 1-4 in the conference, 1-9 overall.

Sigel St. Michael and Teutopolis split wins in action Monday evening.

The Sharpshooters won the seventh-grade encounter 42-34. St. Michael jumped out to a 27-11 halftime lead. Croy tallied 20 and Niebrugge 14 for the winners. T-town was led by Bushur with 23.
