CHAMPAIGN -- Effingham Junior High School split wins with Champaign Edison in boys basketball action Saturday.

Edison won the seventh-grade contest 53-21. Edison stepped out to a 20-6 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Efifngham was led by Ritz with five points. The Mustangs drop to 1-6 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham edged Eidson 39-38. Champaign Edison took a 20-16 halftime lead but the Mustangs came back with a 23-18 second half run to pull out the victory.

Wolfe tallied 11 for the Mustangs. Duncan had nine points, five rebounds and four steals. Stoneburner had six rebounds and N. Thompson had eight points and five rebounds.

At  Dieterich

Dieterich beat Newton St. Thomas 39-22 in seventh-grade action Friday. Dieterich was led by Budde with 15 while St. Thomas was led by Schafer with six.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich won over St. Thomas 39-34. Gephart led the winners with six. Schafer led St. Thomas with 16.

In games Thursday, St. Thomas beat St. Peter 36-10. Gus Bierman tallied 12 for the winners. Brauer led St. Peter with four in the seventh-grade contest.

In eighth-grade play, St. Thomas won 41-37. Weber and Schafer had 12 each for the winners. Brandt tallied 15 for St. Peter.
