Boys Basketball Tournaments Slated

Basketball fans get ready because next week the basketball season gets underway with a bang.

Area teams will be entered in five boys tournaments. Following are the area teams and where they will be competing.

St. Anthony Turkey  Tournament

Right here in Effingham will be the St. Anthony Turkey Tournament with eight teams participating including the Bulldogs of St. Anthony and the Hearts of Effingham.

In Pool A are St. Anthony, Okaw Valley, Champaign St. Thomas More and Effingham. In Pool B are Mattoon, Breese Central, Robinson and Chicago Corliss.

There will be two games Monday with three games Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday's action has four games on tap and the tourney will finish out with the finals Saturday.

Monday, November 21

Game 1 -- Robinson vs. Chicago Corliss, 6 p.m.

Game 2 -- St. Anthony vs. Okaw Valley, 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, November 22

Game 3 -- Chicago Corliss vs. Breese Central, 5 p.m.

Game 4 -- Effingham vs. Champaign St. Thomas, , 6:30 p.m.

Game 5 -- Mattoon vs. Robinson, 8 p.m.

Wednesday, November 23

Game 6 -- Breese Central vs. Mattoon, 5 p.m.

Game 7 -- Okaw Valley vs. Effingham, 6:30 p.m.

Game 9 -- Chicago Corliss vs. Mattoon, 3 p.m.

Game 13 -- Pool A No. 4 vs. Pool B No. 4, 3 p.m.

Game 14 -- Pool A No. 3 vs. Pool B No. 3, 4:30 p.m.

Game 15 -- Pool A No. 2 vs. Pool B No. 2, 6 p.m.

Game 16 -- Pool A No. 1 vs. Pool B No. 1

 

Cumberland Turkey Tournament

Five area squads will be competing in the Cumberland Turkey Tournament which gets underway Monday and runs through Saturday.

In Pool A, playing at Cumberland High School, are No. 1 Altamont, No. 4 Cumberland, No. 7 Casey-Westfield and No. 8 Neoga. In Pool B at Cumberland Junior High School are No. 2 Newton, No. 3 Charleston, No. 5 Oblong and No. 6 Dieterich.

Games will be played simultaneously at both the high school and junior high gyms the first two days and finish out Friday and Saturday at the high school.

Mulberry Grove Turkey Tournament

Three National Trail Conference teams will be competing in the Mulberry Grove Turkey Tournament beginning Monday.

Three games are on tap Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The finals will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.

In Pool A are South Central, North Clay (Louisville), Patoka and Ramsey. In Pool B are St. Elmo/Brownstown, Mount Olive, Sandoval and Mulberry Grove.

Game 1 -- South Central vs. North Clay, 5:15 p.m.

Game 2 -- St. Elmo/Brownstown vs. Mount Olive, 6:45 p.m.

Game 3 -- Ramsey vs. Patoka, 8:15 p.m.

Game 5 -- Patoka vs. South Central, 6:45 p.m.

Cerro Gordo Turkey Tournament

Only one local squad is competing in the Cerro Gordo Turkey Tournament and that team is Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

The Hatchets will open play Monday against Blue Ridge at 7 p.m. then won't play again until Wednesday against Cerro Gordo-Bement at 7:30 p.m. WSS will face Villa Grove-Heritage at 1 p.m. Friday and then finish out against Decatur Christian at 5 p.m. in the round robin tourney.

Game 10 -- Cerro Gordo-Bement vs. Villa Grove-Heritage, 6:30 p.m.

 

Capital Classic

Teutopolis will be taking part in the 28th Annual Capital Classic at Lawrenceville and Red Hill (Bridgeport).

Tournament pairings haven't been released yet. Teutopolis finished second to Lawrenceville in last year's tourney.
