CHBC, Altamont, BSE Claim NTC Seventh-Grade Tourney Wins

DIETERICH -- Altamont, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Brownstown/St. Elmo captured opening round victories in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.

In the opening game, Altamont defeated Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 37-17. Altamont held a 19-8 halftime lead and outscored SSW 18-9 in the second half.

McManaway led the winners with 16 points while Walker added seven. Hayes led Stew-Stras/Windsor with 14.

In the second game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Neoga 31-15. CHBC stepped out to a 13-5 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

CHBC was led by Mady Wojcik with 10 points and Lani Morrison with six.

Neoga was led by Dunn with five points.

In the final contest of the evening, Brownstown/St. Elmo downed North Clay (Louisville) 36-11.

Wilhour tallied eight and Stine seven for BSE. Connelley scored seven for North Clay.

Tonight's games will have No. 1 Dieterich taking on Altamont at 5:30 p.m. followed by Sigel St. Michael meeting Effingham Sacred Heart at 6:45 p.m. and Neoga meeting Stew-Stras/Windsor at 8.
