Effingham Junior High School claimed two victories in seventh and eighth grade girls basketball games Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 35-6 over North Clay (Louisville). Effingham ran off to a 17-0 first quarter lead. Buscher tallied nine points for the winners.

North Clay was led by VanDyke and Back with two each.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham won 45-39. After trailing 11-4 in the opening quarter, the Mustangs came back to hold North Clay scoreless and lead 12-11 at halftime. Diveley tallied 24 for the winners while Armstrong chipped in with 13.

North Clay was led by Lewis with 13 and Kincaid with 12.

At Strasburg

Sigel St. Michael downed Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor in both games.

The Sharpshooters won the seventh-grade game 22-11. Cremens tallied 10 for the winners. Hayes led SSW with seven. SSW drops to 0-5.

In eighth-grade action, St. Michael was a winner 24-12. Niebrugge and Jones scored eight points each.

Megan Nichols led SSW with five points. The squad dropped to 3-2.

At Dieterich

Dieterich picked up two victories over Oblong Monday evening.

Dieterich was a 29-11 winner in seventh-grade action. Dieterich stepped out to an 18-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Meinhart scored 10 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade contest, Dieterich beat Oblong 33-17. Locey tallied 11 for the winners.

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories with Nokomis.

Nokomis claimed the seventh-grade contest 23-22, outscoring the homestanders 10-6 in the final quarter to pull out the win. CHBC was led by Lani Morrison with six points. The squad is now 2-2.

In eighth-grade play, CHBC was a 26-11 winner to improve to 3-1. Sydney Lorton scored seven to lead the way.

Teutopolis and Mattoon picked up a victory apiece.

T-town was a winner in seventh-grade play 32-23. Mattoon led 12-5 at halftime before T-town came back with a 17-4 third period scoring surge.

Isabella Hardiek scored 13 and Macy Probst 10 for the Shoes. T-town is now 3-0.

In eighth-grade play, Mattoon was a 28-19 winner. Carly Michels scored 11 for T-town. The Shoes drop to 1-2.

At Matton

Jasper County edged Cumberland 17-15 in seventh-grade action Monday.

Jasper County trailed Cumberland 4-2 at halftime then had a 9-2 third period scoring run. Amber Russell and Emma Kidwell had six points each for the winners. Cumberland was led by Mitchell with eight.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County won 24-16. Whitney Zumbahlen led the way with eight points. Mitchell scored nine for Cumberland.
