Sammi James, the daughter of former Neoga High School girls baksetball coach, Seth James, has been hired as the head coach of the girls squad at Cumberland High School.

James, a 2012 graduate of Neoga, will take over for Gabi Bushue, who coached the Pirates the last two seasons. James is a senior at Eastern Illinois University where she is majoring in kinesiology, looking ahead to becoming a health and physical education teacher.

The assistant coach will be a former classmate of James, Emma Baker. The pair played together at Neoga where they went 18-12 their senior year and were on two teams that won regional titles.

Seth James was the head coach for the Indians from 1999-2004 where he went 133-33. He has been an assistant coach the last four years under head coach Kim Romack.
