Hearts Season Ends w/Loss to Champaign Central

The Effingham Hearts saw their boys basketball season come to an end Friday night with a 73-55 loss to Champaign Central in the championship game of the Mattoon 3A Regional Friday night. 

Effingham held a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter behind 10 points from Jacob Donaldson, but Champaign Central outscored the Hearts 45-22 over the middle two quarters and led 55-36 heading into the fourth quarrter. The Hearts outpointed Champaign Central 19-18 in the final period.

Grant Wolfe led Effingham with 25 points, 12 in the fourth quarter, while Donaldson finished with 19 points. Also for Effingham: Jared Minor 4, Brady Jackson 3, Sean Zerrusen 2, and Brent Beals 2.

Effingham finished the campaign with a 20-9 record. It's the fourth straight season that Effingham finished with 20 or more wins, the first time in Effingham boys basketball history. The Hearts say goodbye to seniors Reed Schafer, Sean Zerrusen, Jared Minor, Michael Woltman, Alex Webb and Brady Scott.
