Wooden Shoes Capture Own Regional

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes won the championship of their own 2A Regional Friday night with a 58-50 victory over the Marshall Lions.

The Shoes got out of the gate in style, leading 19-8 after one quarter. The lead was 28-15 at halftime, but Marshall pulled to within 44-36 after three quarters. It was 14-14 in the fourth quarter, giving the Shoes the eight-point victory.

Brett Mette led Teutopolis with 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. After a scare in the regional semifinal when Michael Drees went down in a heap while going up for a layup, the senior point guard bounced back to score 13 points with four steals and three assists. Devin Smith scored seven points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Mitch Hardiek added eight points with five rebounds and four assists, and Kyle Smith scored seven points with five rebounds. Also for T-Town, Brant Bueker scored four points and Chris Ungrund three points.

Teutopolis improved to 24-6 on the season by winning a seventh straight regional championship, and will take on Mt. Carmel on Wednesday night at 7pm at the Flora 2A Sectional.
