Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School's seventh-grade boys basketball team is headed to state. The Bullpups won their own Class 7-2A Boys Basketball Sectional by beating Altamont 33-15 Wednesday evening.

The Bullpups edged out to an 11-6 opening quarter lead. Altamont pulled back within 15-12 at halftime. St. Anthony then had an 18-3 second half.

Walsh tallied 14 points while Antrim scored 11 for the winners.

Altamont was led by Eirhart with six points.

St. Anthony advances with a 17-5 record to face Hazel Crest Jesse White at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Clinton High School.

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Sigel St. Michael won the championship of its own sectional by beating Pana Sacred Heart, 42-21. No statistics were provided.

The Sharpshooters, 21-2, advanced to the Class 7-1A State Tournament at East Peoria Central Junior High School Saturday to face Hardin Calhoun at 11:30 a.m.

 

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Sectional

Teutopolis claimed its own sectional championship by downing Casey-Westfield 32-20.

T-town held a 13-8 halftime lead and had a 15-4 final quarter. Wermert and M. Deters scored 10 points each for the Shoes.

T-town improves to 22-2 on the season and will advance to the Class 7-3A State Tournament Saturday at Wenona Fieldcrest. The Shoes will take on South Holland McKinley (18-0) at 1 p.m.
