St. Anthony Wins NTC Girls Tournament Championship

The St. Anthony Bulldogs are the champions of the National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament.

St. Anthony won the title Saturday with a 40-34 victory over the Altamont Lady Indians.

St. Anthony led 14-7 after one quarter, 20-13 at halftime and 34-23 after three quarters. Altamont outscored St. Anthony 11-6 in the final quarter to pull within six.

Freshman Abby Weis led St. Anthony with 12 points. Also for St. Anthony: Emily McDevitt 8, Maddie Schuette 7, Abbie Schmidt 5, Emma Richards 5, Abby Brown 2, and Hunter Niebrugge 1.

For Altamont, Keidron Duckwitz led with 9 points. Also for the Indians: Shelbi Stone 6, Brooke Burns 6, Carly McHugh 5, Tinley Mette 4, Leah Mayhaus 3 and Ashley Goeckner 1.

Neoga won the third place game, 56-52 over Brownstown/St. Elmo. E.C. Thies led Neoga with 21 points while Jaycie Roy added 18. Also for Neoga: Rachel Ewing 6, Blair Banning 4, Kyla Potter 3, Kacie Hotze 2 and Maddie Morrison 2. For BSE, Morgan Brown led the way with 20 points while Deana Shelton added 18. Also for BSE: Kyrstyn Fitch 6, Gabi Moore 3, Emily Bone 3 and Elissa Baron 2.

The consolation championship went to Windsor/Stew-Stras, who defeated South Central 66-39. For WSS, Kenzi Tabbert led the way with 19 points, while Megan Schlechte and Grace Schuler each added 17 points. Also for WSS: Nikki Trussell 5, Katrina Davis 4, Madison Everett 2, and Kaylee Newkirk 2. For South Central: Abby Hahn 13, Alannah Sigrist 11, Keely Smith 8, Serina Lee 4, Mady Kollman 2, and Autumn McCoy 1.

The seventh place game was won by Dieterich over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 61-37. Kelsey Webb poured in 28 points to lead Dieterich, while Madison Bannick added 10 points, Cassie Vahling 7, Jennifer Robards 5, Kallee Heuerman 5, Melody Manhke 4, and Kaitlyn Bloemer 2. For CHBC, Skylar Morrison led the way with 14 points, while Tabitha Endsley added 6, Timber Gates 5, Emma Wehrle 4, Taylor Oldham 4, Haley Persinger 3, and Cecelia Miller 1.

Morgan Brown of BSE was named the conference tournament MVP. Other All-Tournament team members are Jaycie Roy of Neoga, Emma Richards of St. Anthony, Tinley Mette of Altamont, Megan Schlechte of WSS, Abby Hahn of South Central, Leah Mayhaus of Altamont, Abby Weis of St. Anthony, Mackenzi Tabbert of WSS, Emily McDevitt of St. Anthony, Kallee Heuerman of Dieterich, and E.C. Thies of Neoga.
