Freshman/Sophomore Boys Basketball -- Jan. 18

Effingham played host to Mattoon in freshman/sophomore boys basketball action Monday evening and the Green Wave left with two victories.

In the freshman contest, Mattoon was a 57-50 winner. The Green Wave led 27-24 at halftime. But the Hearts came back with an 18-13 third quarter run as Lucas Hagler connected for seven points while Zack Lee tallied six. EHS led 42-40 going into the final quarter. Mattoon then got back on track with a 17-8 run for the win.

Hagler and Dylann Bushur finished with 15 points each while Lee tallied 14.

In the sophomore contest, Mattoon claimed a 55-50 win. The Green Wave led 26-22 at halftime and 42-35 going into the final quarter. EHS mounted a final quarter rally, only to fall short.

Ryan Sandifer led the Hearts with 22 points.
