Girls NTC Tournament Opening Round Scores

BEECHER CITY -- The National Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament opened play Saturday at Beecher City High School. Neoga, Altamont, Effingham St. Anthony and Brownstown/St. Elmo picked up opening victories.

Neoga tallied a 59-24 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. The Indians took a 34-9 halftime lead.

Jaycie Roy led the Indians with 35 points. Neoga was playing without one of its leading scorers, EC Thies.

CHBC was led by Morrison with 13 points.

In the second game, Altamont handed South Central a 42-21 loss. Altamont's Duckwitz knocked in two three-pointers in the first quarter while Mette added six points and the Indians led 15-4.

Mette finished with 18 points for the winners. She was the lone player in double figures. South Central was led by Hahn with nine.

St. Anthony then claimed a 52-20 win over Dieterich. The Bulldogs held a 33-7 halftime lead and never looked back.

Emily McDevitt scored 11 while Abbie Schmidt added 10 in the win. Dieterich was led by Robards with nine.

In the final game of the day, Brownstown/St. Elmo outlasted Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 47-43. BSE ran off to an 18-7 opening quarter lead and led 26-17 at halftime.

WSS came back with a 26-21 second half run only to fall short.

BSE was led by Moore with 17, Fitch with 11 and Bone with 11. WSS was led by Schlechte with 18 and Tabbert with 11.

The tournament continues tonight as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will meet South Central in consolation bracket play at 6 p.m. followed by Neoga taking on Altamont in winner bracket action at 7:30.
