S'ville Gets Revenge, T-town Beats Paris, Area Boys Roundup

SHELBYVILLE -- Shelbyville High School fell to Altamont in overtime at the Vandalia Holiday Basketball Tournament last week. Altamont went on to capture the championship.

This time around, on its home floor, Shelbyville captured a 56-52 non-conference boys win. It was a hard-fought victory as Altamont knocked on the door in the final quarter.

Altamont took a 10-8 opening quarter lead but Shelbyville came back with a 19-16 second quarter run to lead 27-26 at halftime. The lead went to 42-36 going into the final quarter.

The Rams held a nine-point lead but Altamont started chipping away, pulling it down to three points twice in the final quarter. Altamont's Klaiton Wolff connected on a free throw but missed the second one. Teammate Sam Childerson picked off the rebound but missed a putback attempt. Shelbyville's Jordan Smith pulled down this board and was fouled. He made one free throw to push the lead into a comfortable four points.

Four players hit double digits for the Rams, Roedl and Miller with 12 each and Pullen and H. Plummer with 10 each.

Altamont was led by Ryan Armstrong with 18 and Wolff with 10.

At Paris

Teutopolis improved to 13-1 on the season with a 69-39 trouncing of Paris. The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and led 34-16 at halftime.

T-town then had a a slight 18-16 third period then had an 18-7 final quarter.

Three players finished in double figures for the Shoes. Brett Mette tallied 15 while Brant Bueker had 13 and Devin Smith 12. Brett Mette had six rebounds while Smith had six rebounds and six assists.

The Shoes had eight three-pointers in the contest led by Brant Bueker with three and D. Smith with two.

Newton pounded North Clay (Louisville) 70-34. The Eagles held a 30-19 halftime lead then had a 40-15 second half.

Mammoser tallied 22 for the Eagles while Stone chipped in with 17. Cohorst added nine points.

The Eagles improve their record to 5-9 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a National Trail Conference win over Neoga, 46-36.

WSS held a 25-10 halftime lead. Neoga came back with a 17-9 third quarter run to pull within 34-27 but WSS regained the momentum in the final period.

Warner tallied 15 while Overbeck scored 13 for the winners who improve to 1-1 in the conference, 7-6 overall.

Neoga was led by Holt with 15 points. The Indians drop to 0-4 in the conference, 0-16 overall.

Flora took an early lead and then outscored Dieterich 36-19 in the second half for a 67-52 non-conference victory.

The Wolves bombarded Dieterich with 11 three-point bombs. Flora led 15-7 after the opening quarter and 31-23 at halftime. The Wolves were led by Gocey with 25, Leib with 20 and Smith with 15. Gocey nailed seven three-pointers in the contest while Leib had two, Smith one and Gaither one.

Dieterich was led by Travis Niemerg with 17 points and Lance Niemerg with 15.
