STRASBURG -- Dieterich and host Stewardson-Strasburg split junior high boys basketball wins Tuesday evening.

Dieterich claimed the seventh-grade game 44-16. Dieterich took a 17-2 opening quarter run and the game was on ice from the start.

Kuhl tallied 13 and Gephart 12 for the winners. Wernsing led Stew-Stras (3-14) with 11 points.

In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras improved to 5-9 with a 32-28 win over Dieterich.

Dieterich held a 6-4 opening quarter lead but the score was tied at 12-12 at halftime and 18-18 going into the final quarter. Stew-Stras then had a 14-10 run to pull out the victory.

Kirby scored 14 and Jesgarz 13 for the winners. Dieterich was led by Niebrugge with 10.

At Newton

Altamont came calling and handed host Jasper County two losses.

Altamont stepped out to a 22-12 halftime lead and had a 27-9 second half run. Baucum and Eirhart tallied 11 each for the winners.

Jasper County was led by Geier with eight.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont picked up a 49-32 win. Altamont held a slight 22-21 halftime lead then had a 15-5 third quarter run as Delaney tallied eight points. Delaney scored six more in the final period 12-6 surge.

Delaney finished with 19 for the winners while Gelsinger added 11. Jasper County was led by Tharp with 12 and Schafer with 10.

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes pounded Mattoon in both seventh and eighth grade competition Tuesday evening.

T-town won the seventh-grade game 32-10. Hardiek scored 13 points for the winners. The Shoes held a 21-5 halftime lead.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town leaped out to a 20-0 first quarter lead and never looked back in a 44-10 victory.

The Shoes were led by M. Deters with eight points and Addis with seven.

North Clay (Louisville) defeated St. Joe 35-24 in a Junior Midland Trail Conference Tournament semifinal Tuesday evening.

North Clay held a 26-16 halftime lead then had 7-4 third quarter run. The winners were led by Tyson Jones with nine and Lane Holkenbrink with eight.

Newton St. Thomas downed New Hebron in two contests Tuesday.

St. Thomas won the seventh-grade game 26-23. St. Thomas held a 16-14 halftime lead then had a 10-9 second half. Collin Dosey led St. Thomas with 10 points.

In eighth-grade action, St. Thomas was a 37-27 winner. New Hebron led 20-17 at halftime. St. Thomas rallied in the second half with a 20-6 run. Will Ochs tallied 11 for the winners who improve to 12-2.
