Marshall Hands Cumberland Boys Loss

MARSHALL -- Marshall High School played host to Cumberland and claimed a 70-63 win over the Pirates in boys basketball action Saturday.

Marshall edged out to a 20-19 opening quarter lead as Josiah Wallace tallied nine points. Blake Cutts had eight for the Pirates, two of those baskets coming from the three-point line.

The Runnin' Lions then went on a 22-12 second period run to lead 42-31 at halftime. Wallace again was the big gun, scoring 14 points.

Cumberland came back on baskets by Ryan Green in the third period to pull within 57-52. Green connected on two trifectas and added a two-pointer for eight points.

But the Lions had a 13-11 final quarter edge to hold on for the victory. Wallace finished with 31 points while Brock Finkbiner added 15 and Spencer Shoffner 13.

Cumberland was led by Cutts with 20 and Gunnar McMechan with 10.
