Effingham Girls Beat Cahokia, 61-49

CAHOKIA -- Effingham High School traveled to Cahokia Saturday and claimed a 61-49 non-conference girls basketball victory over the host squad.

The Hearts edged out to a 13-8 opening quarter lead but Cahokia came back with a 10-8 second period run to pull within 21-18 at halftime.

EHS had a slight 15-13 third period edge to lead 36-31 going into the final quarter then kicked it into high gear, outscoring Cahokia 25-18 for the final tally. Cahokia got 15 of those 18 points from Lewis on five three-pointers in the quarter.

Four players scored in double figures for the Hearts. Carsyn Fearday led the way with 18 points while Miranda Fox added 12, Marranda Steffen 11 and Shelby Myers 10.

The Hearts improve to 11-4 on the season and will be back in action tonight, traveling to Newton.
