Altamont Advances to Vandalia Title Game

VANDALIA -- Altamont went overtime to beat Effingham St. Anthony 70-66 in the Vandalia Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a big 21-11 opening quarter lead and led 31-22 at halftime. Altamont came back with a 21-14 third quarter run to pull within 45-43 going into the final period. The Indians then knotted the score with a 14-12 final quarter, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime session, Altamont outscored the Bulldogs 13-9 to pull out the victory.

Armstrong tallied 22 for the Indians while K. Wolff chipped in with 19 and Hosick added 10. Childerson pulled down 10 rebounds.  The Indians are now 10-1 on the season.

St. Anthony was led by Drew Gibson with 24 and Nick Grunloh with 23. James Kabbes had 10 rebounds.

Altamont will meet Pana today at 8 p.m. for the championship. St. Anthony will face Flora at 5 p.m. for fifth place.

In the opening game of the day, South Central defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown 56-46. The Cougars took the early lead, going out to 28-23 at halftime. South Central then had a 28-23 second half tally.

Four players hit double figures for the Cougars led by Arnold with 18. Harmeier tallied 13, Markley 12 and Hill 11.

SEB was led by Hardimon with 16 and Feezel with 13.

In the second contest, Patoka won over Shelbyville 63-59.

In the third game, Pana edged St. Elmo/Brownstown 50-46. The Panthers leaped out to a 19-8 opening quarter lead but SEB came back with a 15-9 run to pull within 28-23 at halftime. SEB outscored Pana 23-22 in the second half but it was too little, too late.

SEB was led by Kroll and Feezel with 12 points each. Feezel pulled down nine rebounds.

Patoka defeated Vandalia 63-59 and Greenville finished out the day with a 58-51 win over Flora.

St. Elmo/Brownstown meets Shelbyville at 2 p.m. today for ninth place. South Central takes on Vandalia at 3:30 p.m. for seventh place. Patoka faces Greenville at 6:30 p.m. for third place.
