Wooden Shoes Split Girls Wins, Neoga Claims Two at Monticello

EDWARDSVILLE -- Teutopolis High School picked up a win but suffered a loss in the Edwardsville Tiger Girls Holiday Basketball Classic Monday evening.

T-town won the opener over Jacksonville 46-21. The Shoes ran off to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one. Hartke tallied 12 points while Drees scored 10 for the Shoes.

In the second T-town game, the Shoes fell to host Edwardsville 68-37. Edwardsville dominated from the get-go, taking a 25-11 first quarter lead and led 43-22 at halftime.

zy-town was led by Smith with eight points and Repking with seven.

In other games, Edwarsdville beat DeKalb 72-30, Chicago Simeon won over McHenry 51-37, Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin downed McCluer North 59-51, Jacksonville defeated DeKalb 56-51, Sacred Heart Griffin beat McHenry 57-51 and Chicago Simeon edged McCluer North 50-47.

Monticello Tournament

Neoga High School went 2-0 at the Monticello Holiday Tournament Monday. That moves the Indians into the championship game today.

Neoga beat Ridgeview 67-59 in the opener. The Indians trailed Ridgeview 30-29 at halftime. But Neoga rallied with a 25-12 third quarter surge and held off Ridgeview in the final quarter.

EC Thies tallied 33 points, connecting on nine field goals that included two three-pointers and was 13 of 16 at the line. Jaycie Roy scored 24 points on nine field goals which included four trifectas and was two of two at the line.

In the second contest for the Indians, Neoga defeated Mount Zion 58-41. The Indians leaped out to an 11-2 opening quarter lead and had a 32-24 second half run.

Thies scored 16 while Roy chipped in with 14.

In other games, Mount Zion beat Argenta-Oreana 52-34, Monticello won over GCMS 47-26, Tuscola downed Stark County 64-53 and Ridgeview beat Argenta-Oreana 55-40.

Stark County takes on Argenta-Oreana at 1 p.m. for seventh place followed by GCMS against Ridgeview at 2:30 p.m. for fifth place, Monticello meets Mount Zion at 4 p.m. for third place and Neoga faces Tuscola at 5:30 p.m. for the championship.
