St. Anthony Beats Altamont in Girls NTC Basketball

St. Anthony defeated Altamont 34-22 Monday night in National Trail Conference girls basketball. The game wsa heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.  

St. Anthony won the contest at the foul line, making 16 of 23 shots. Altamont made four of just eight free throws. That 16-4 edge at the line was important, since each team made just nine shots from the field, St. Anthony in 41 attempts, Altamont in 33 tries. That's 22% for St. Anthony, 27% for Altamont.

Turnovers were a problem for the young Altamont squad, as they turned the ball over 20 times to 13 for St. Anthony, and St. Anthony had 30-24 rebounding edge. Neither team made a three-point shot; St. Anthony in five tries, Altamont in six attempts.

St. Anthony led throughout the game, 10-4 after one quarter, 22-12 at halftime, and 30-16 after three quarters before Altamont posted a 6-4 edge in the fourth quarter.

Emma Richards paced St. Anthony offensively, scoring 10 points and also grabbing 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. Also for St. Anthony: Hunter Niebrugge 6, Abby Weis 5, Kyla Burton 4, Abbie Schmidt 4, Emily McDevitt 2, Abby Brown 2, Maddie Schuette 1.

Keidron Duckwitz was the whole story offensively for Altamont, scoring 14 of the Indians' 22 points. Also for Altamont: Leah Mayhaus 4, Shelbi Stone 2, Brooke Burns 1, Tinley Mette 1.

St. Anthony improved to 6-3 with the win, 3-0 in National Trail Conference play; Altamont is now 3-7 on the season.

Altamont won the JV game 36-26. Carly McHugh led Altamont with 12 points. Abby Weis and Shea Kinkelaar each scored seven points for St. Anthony.
