Effingham St. Anthony edged Effingham 38-37 in eighth-grade boys basketball competition Thursday evening.

The Bullpups took an 11-6 first quarter lead and led 18-8 at halftime. Effingham came back with a 15-9 third quarter run and outscored St. Anthony 14-11 in the final quarter but couldn't make up that first half deficit.

Tingley led St. Anthony with 16 points while Hoene chipped in with 11.

Effingham was led by Waldhoff with 11 as the Mustangs drop to 3-7.

Effingham claimed the seventh-grade victory, 36-30. Wolfe tallied 12 and Duncan nine for the winners. Walsh led St. Anthony with 12 and Moore had eight.

Effingham Sacred Heart and Stewardson-Strasburg split victories Thursday evening.

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade contest 33-25. Conkling scored eight and Wallace seven for the winners. Stew-Stras was led by Wernsing with 14. The Stars drop to 2-8.

In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras won 44-34 to improve to 3-7. Jesgarz scored 20 while Kirby had 17 for the winners. Swingler led the Shamrocks with 11 points.

Altamont tallied 52 points in beating Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 52-23 in seventh-grade action Thursday evening.

Altamont had 11 players score in the contest led by Abendroth with 10 and Brewer with nine.

In the eighth-grade contest, Altamont won 48-34. Kollmann and Delaney scored 12 points each for the winners. Brown led BCCH with 17.

Teutopolis claimed two wins over Vandalia. T-town won the seventh-grade game 50-26.

T-town led 24-16 at halftime and outscored Vandalia 26-10 in the second half. The Shoes had three players in double digits, McMahon with 13, Hemmen with 12 and Ungrund with 11.

In the seventh-grade game, T-town won 37-16. Addis scored 12 for the winners.

North Clay (Louisville) defeated Clay City 39-21 in seventh-grade competition. Bible tallied eight for the winners while nine other players scored in the game.

In eighth-grade action, North Clay had every player score in a 67-21 victory over Clay City. Colby Zimdars tallied 17 while Ethan Bible and Evan Yoho had eight each. Ten other players scored in the game.
