Neoga Claims CHBC Girls Thanksgiving Tournament

COWDEN -- Neoga High School defeated Ramsey 73-33 and Brownstown/St. Elmo 79-75 to win the championship of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Thanksgiving Tournament Saturday.

Neoga won the opener by handily stepping out to a 28-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. Jaycie Roy tallied 21, Blair Banning 15 and EC Thies 13 for the winners.

In the next contest, Dieterich defeated CHBC 50-36. The Movin' Maroons tallied a 28-18 halftime lead. Anna Shadle scored 21 and Kallee Heuerman 13 for the winners. Tabitha Endsley led CHBC with 12.

Brownstown/St. Elmo then defeated North Clay (Louisville) 66-48. Three players hit double figures for the winners, Morgan Brown with 21, Emily Bone with 11 and Kyrstyn Fitch with 10. North Clay was led by Taylor Jones with 14 and Mikayla Stanfield with 13.

Dieterich then downed Ramsey 44-35, edging out to a 24-22 hafltime lead then outscoring Ramsey 20-13 in the second half. Shadle tallied 17, Kelsey Webb 13 and Heuerman 11.

North Clay defeated CHBC 48-31. The Cardinals held a 30-11 halftime lead. Stanfield scored 12, Darcy Fender 11 and Jones 10 for the winners. CHBC was led by Felicia Johnson with 11.

That put Neoga and BSE, both undefeated in the round robin tourney, into the title contest. The score was knotted at 19-19 after the opening quarter. Neoga pushed ahead 37-34 at hafltime. The Indians kept the pressure on with a 19-15 third quarter run and held off a final period challenge.

Thies and Roy were the one-two scoring punch for the winners with 29 and 28 points respectively. BSE was led by Morgan Brown with 19, Elissa Baron with 13 and Dana Shelton with 10.

Named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament was EC Thies of Neoga. Also on the All-Tournament Team were Taylor Jones (North Clay ), Jaycie Roy (Neoga), Megan Brown (BSE), Skye Kimberlin (Ramsey), Tabitha Endsley (CHBC), Kallee Heuerman (Dieterich) and Alyssa Groves (North Clay).
