Bulldogs Play for Consy Championship at Taylorville Girls Tournament

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony High School was scheduled to play for the consolation championship of the Taylorville Girls Holiday Basketball Tourney after the Bulldogs defeated Decatur Eisenhower Friday evening 50-31.

St. Anthony jumped out to a whopping 18-2 opening quarter lead on Eisenhower and never looked back.

Emma Richards scored 10 points and was the lone player in double firgures for St. Anthony but the Bulldogs had nine other players score in the game. Richards also had 10 rebounds and four assists.

In other games, Jacksonville won over Mount Zion 76-51 so that pushed Jacksonville into the consolation championship against St. Anthony.

Eisenhower will play Mount Zion for seventh place.

In the winner bracket, Auburn downed Taylorville 49-23 while Hillsboro won over Lincoln 63-56. Auburn and Hillsboro were to meet for the championship while Taylorville faces Lincoln for third place.

At Pana

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor fell to Mattoon 63-34 in the Pana Tournament Friday. That gives the Hatchets an 0-4 pool record. They will play for seventh place Saturday.

Mattoon stepped out to a 23-9 opening quarter lead. Abe Lee scored 12 points for the Green Wave.

SSW was led by Megan Schlechte with 11 points.
