Dieterich Lone Area Team To Pick Up Victory at Cumberland

TOLEDO -- Dieterich High School was the lone area team to pick up a victory Tuesday evening at the Cumberland Boys Turkey Basketball Tournament.

The Movin' Maroons, playing at the junior high school, edged out to a 17-15 lead on Cumberland but then had a big 18-5 second quarter to lead 35-20 at halftime. Cumberland came back with a 17-15 second half run but fell 50-38.

Feldhake and L. Niemerg provided the one-two scoring punch with 14 points each while T. Niemerg chipped in with 10.

Cumberland was led by Brandon with 17, Magee with 12 and Ryan 10.

In the other game at the junior high, Chrisman edged Newton 61-58. Chrisman held a 19-10 opening quarter lead and led 31-26 at halftime. Chrisman then had a 17-12 third period lead. Newton came roaring back with a 20-10 run only to fall short.

Chrisman was led by Porter with 18 points. Newton was led by Mammoser with 25 points.

In games at the high school, Paris pounded Neoga 76-36. The Tigers held a 31-18 halftime lead and had a 13-8 third period run. Neoga outscored Paris 10-0 in the final period.

Paris had three players in double figures. Polk led the way with 17 while Burger and Switzer had 10 each.

Neoga was led by Hill with nine points.

Altamont fell short to Charleston 58-53. The Trojans held an 18-17 opening quarter lead then had a 14-7 run to lead 32-24 at halftime.

Altamont came roaring back with a 13-9 third quarter run as Ryan Armstrong knocked in a three-pointer and two more baskets for seven points. But the Trojans had a 17-16 edge in the final quarter as Taylor-Lutz tallied 10of his total 17 points for the winners. Bell chipped in with 13 and Strader with 12.

Altamont was led by Armstrong with 18 and Adam Mayhaus with 13.

The tournament continues Friday with Charleston vs. Neoga at 3 p.m., Cumberland vs. Chrisman at 4:30, Altamont vs. Paris at 6 and Dieterich vs. Newton at 7:30.

At Vandalia

In a regular season contest, South Central defeated Vandalia 63-59 Tuesday evening in overtime.

Vandalia held a 29-20 halftime and lead and led 44-33 going into the final quarter.  The Cougars rallied and came back with a 19-8 final period run to knot the score at 52-52, sending the game into overtime. South Central carried the momentum into the overtime session and had an 11-7 run to pull out the victory.

Harmeier tallied 20 and Hill 19 for the winners. South Central returns to action Tuesday playing host to St. Elmo/Brownstown.

At Louisville

St. Elmo/Brownstown traveled to North Clay (Louisville) and picked up a 38-29 victory. The Cardinals held an 11-2 opening quarter lead but SEB came back with an 11-3 second quarter run to pull within 14-13 at halftime.

SEB knotted the score at 24-24 going into the final quarter then had an 14-5 run to pull out the win.

Hardimon scored 14 for the winners. North Clay was led by Walker with six.
