Effingham Junior High School split wins against visiting Champaign Edison in boys basketball competition Saturday.

Effingham fell in seventh-grade play 54-48. the Mustangs trailed Edison 26-19 at halftime and came back to outscore the visitors in the second half but only by a 29-28 count.

Wolfe tallied 24 for the Mustangs who drop to 4-3.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham picked up its first win of the season by beating Edison 33-15. The Mustangs held a 13-9 first half lead then had a 20-6 second half run.

Snow tallied 13 for the winners. Niebrugge led in assists with four while Pemberton pulled down 11 rebounds. Effingham is now 1-6 on the season.
