ALTAMONT -- Altamont claimed two victories over visiting Effingham Sacred Heart in boys junior high basketball Thursday evening.

Altamont picked up the seventh-grade win 32-7. Altamont held a 23-2 halftime lead. Austin led the way with 12 points. The Shamrocks were led by Tegeler with four.

In the eighth-grade contest, Altamont had eight players score in a 43-12 win over Sacred Heart. Leading the way was Kollmann with 12 points while Delaney added eight. Sacred Heart was led by Conkling with five points.

At Charleston

Charleston handed Effingham two losses. Charleston won the seventh-grade contest 45-25. EJHS held a 21-20 hafltime lead but Charleston came back with a 9-3 third quarter score then put the game away with a 16-1 final quarter run.

Effingham was led by Wolfe with nine points.

In the eighth-grade game, Charleston was a 36-23 winner. The Mustangs took a 9-6 opening quarter lead but Charleston rallied to lead 18-14 at halftime and had an 18-9 second half run.

S. Thompson led the Mustangs with five points as the team dropped to 0-6.

At Sigel

Sigel St. Michael downed Stewardson-Strasburg in both seventh and eighth-grade action Thursday.

St. Michael won the seventh-grade game 39-9 as Ruholl, Will and C. Fearday scored eight points each in even scoring. Stew-Stras was led by Wernsing with four as the Stars drop to 1-4.

In eighth-grade play, St. Michael was a 47-21 winner. Croy scored 10, K. Fearday nine and Ruholl nine for the Sharpshooters. Stew-Stras was led by Jesgarz with nine as the Stars drop to 1-4.

At Cisne

North Clay (Louisville) and Cisne split junior high victories Thursday.

Cisne picked up the seventh-grade contest 23-15. Cisne held an 11-8 first half lead then had a 12-7 second half run. North Clay was led by Landis Rinehart with five points.

In eighth-grade play, North Clay nabbed the 57-34 victory. Zimdars scored 12 and Jones 11 for the winners.

Teutopolis hosted Jasper County and claimed both wins Thursday evening.

The Shoes won the seventh-grade game 55-9 with a 32-6 first half run. M. Deters tallied 12 points and led 13 players in scoring. Jasper County was led by Meinhart with four points.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town claimed a 42-29 win. The Shoes led 24-10 at halftime. Hemmen scored 12, Ungrund 11 and Hardiek 11 for the winners. Jasper County was led by Schafer with nine.
