Effingham Junior High School played host to Mount Zion and split wins in boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade encounter 37-27. Mount Zion held a 10-9 opening quarter lead but the Mustangs came back to knot the score at 15-15 at halftime then moved ahead with an 11-5 third period run.

Wolfe tallied 11 for the winners while Stoneburner added eight as the Mustangs improved to 2-0.

In eighth-grade play, Mount Zion edged Effingham 38-36. The score was tied at 18-18 at halftime and Effingham moved ahead 27-26  in the third quarter but Mount Zion had a 12-9 final period edge.

Waldhoff tallied 11 for the Mustangs who drop to 0-2.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony bounced Casey 52-32 in seventh-grade action. The Bullpups held a 24-16 halftime lead and outscored Casey 14-4 in the final quarter.

Walsh scored 15 and Antrim 12 for the winners.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony picked up a 31-21 win. The Bullpups held a 14-10 first half lead. Casey came back to pull within 16-14 going into the final quarter before St. Anthony pushed way ahead with a 15-7 run.

Dust scored 11 for the winners.

At Flora

Teutopolis handed Flora Floyd Henson a 33-14 loss in seventh-grade play and won 52-36 in the eighth-grade contest.

T-town held Flora scoreless in the opening quarter for an 8-0 seventh-grade lead. The Shoes were led by M. Deters with eight and Wermert with seven.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town held a 29-22 halftime lead then took off with a 12-2 third quarter surge. Hemmen and Hardiek provided the one-two scoring punch with 17 and 15 points respectively.

Altamont Lutheran and Sigel St. Michael both picked up a win each.

The Sharpshooters won the seventh-grade game 40-21.

Altamont Lutheran claimed the eighth-grade contest 51-40.
