TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham fell to Taylorville in both seventh and eighth-grade girls basketball competition Thursday.

In seventh-grade play, Taylorville won 30-20 over the Mustangs. Effingham was led by Divley with six points.

In the eighth-grade game, Taylorville won 30-17. The Mustangs were led by Krause with seven points.

In Friday action, the Mustangs traveled to Neoga and claimed two wins. Effingham picked up the seventh-grade contest 31-14, holding Neoga scoreless in the first half for an 18-0 lead.

Armstrong and Divley scored six points each for Effingham which improved to 3-2. Stodden led Neoga with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham was a 24-18 winner. Martin and Krouse scored eight points each. Sheehan led Neoga with six.

Effingham is now 1-4 on the season.

At Lawrenceville

Teutopolis Junior High split girls basketball victories with Lawrenceville Thursday evening.

Lawrenceville was a 17-13 winner in the seventh-grade contest. The winners held a 13-6 halftime lead. Carly Michels led T-town with 11 points as the Shoes dropped to 1-3.

In eighth-grade action, T-town leaped out to a 20-2 first half lead and won 28-17 to remain unbeaten at 4-0. Olivia Niemerg tallied six and Claire Bushur five for the Shoes.

T-town will host Central A&M and Marshall for a Shootout Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

At Dieterich

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor picked up a seventh-grade win over Dieterich 39-11 to improve to 3-2 in the National Trail Conference and 3-3 overall.

Hoene tallied 16 and Schlechte 15 for the winners. Dieterich was led by Bloemer with four.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich took a 29-25 victory. Mahnke tallied eight to lead the way while three players tallied six points each. Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by Hayes and Schlechte with eight points each. SSW drops to 0-5 in the conference, 0-6 overall.

At Beecher City

Sigel St. Michael beat Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick twice.  St. Michael took a 23-19 victory in the seventh-grade contest. It was the first loss for BCCH who drops to 2-1 in the National Trail Conference, 8-1 overall.

Niebrugge scored 11 for the winners. Madison Cherry tallied six for BCCH.

In eighth-grade play, St. Michael edged BCCH 41-37. BCCH held a 19-12 halftime lead. The Sharpshooters came back with a 21-9 second half run to tie the score at 31-31 sending the game into overtime. In the overtime session, the Sharpshooters outscored BCCH 10-6.

Niebrugge led the way with 16 points while Micah McWhorter added 14. Lauren Wojcik led BCCH (1-2, 3-3) with 15.

Jasper County handed Red Hill (Bridgeport) two losses Thursday evening.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade game 20-8. Whitney Zumbahlen scored eight and Jacey Parr six.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County was a 45-10 winner. Jasper County held an 18-6 first half lead then had a 15-2 third period run.

Abby Stone scored 10 and Josie Grunloh nine for the winners.
