EHS Girls Basketball Players, Wrestlers Honored

Effingham High School girls basketball and wrestling athletes were honored at a banquet Saturday at the Hearts Rock Cafe.

Winning girls varsity basketball awards were, left to right, Shelby Myers, Shayna Phillips, Aly Armstrong, Marranda Steffen, Brittany Beals, Jantzen Michael and Taylor Crowell.

Coach Jeff Schafer presented girls varsity basketball awards. Jantzen Michael, a team captain, picked up five awards. Michael was the assist leader with 91, the steals leader with 76, the three-point field goals leader with 58 percent and was named Most Valuable Player and Miss Basketball.

Brittany Beals, also a team captain, claimed three awards. Beals won the rebound leader award with 168, blocks leader with 26 and was named Best Defensive Player.

Shelby Myers captured the highest free throw percentage with 72.4. Taylor Crowell won The Charge Award. Aly Armstrong claimed Most Improved. Marranda Steffen won the Hustle Award and Shayna Phillips picked up the Max Wolfe Sportsmanship Award.

Winning girls junior varsity awards were, left to right, Taylor Conkling, Shelby Nunamaker and Taylor Crowell.

Winning junior varsity awards were Shelby Nunamaker for Most Improved, Taylor Conkling claimed the Hustle award and Taylor Crowell won Best Defensive Player.

Winning girls freshman/sophomore awards were, left to right, Jade Depoister, Alexis Damron and Riya Shah.

Freshman/sophomore awards went to Alexis Damron for Most Improved, Jade Depoister for Best Defense and Riya Shah for Hustle.

Picking up letters were Jantzen Michael, Brittany Beals, Aly Armstrong, Marranda Steffen, Sidney Webster, Shelby Nunamaker, Taylor Crowell, Bria Barr, Shelby Myers, Maddy Field and managers Amelia Buscher and Jami Swan.

Winning wrestling awards were, left to right, Griffin Paige, Brett Hodges, Jarrett Jones and Brooke Schnepper.

Griffin Paige picked up three wrestling awards. Paige won the Most Valuable Wrestler award, the Most Valuable Offensive Wrestler and the Most Valuable Defensive Wrestler.

Brett Hodges claimed two awards, the Most Improved Wrestler and the Heart award. Jarrett Jones picked up the Rookie Award. Brook Schnapper won the Heart Award.

Letters went to Brody Beck, Nathan Case, Ryan Hails, Sid Hernandez, Brett Hodges, Jarrett Jones, Zach Keitel, Braden Lawrence, Tanner Loy, Brandon Marschewski, Ben Meinahrt, Triston Mesnard, Zane Thilker, Griffin Paige, Nico Poiselli, Tristen Rhodes and Brooke Schnepper.
