The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes advanced to the championship game of the Benton Class 2A Sectional Thursday night with a 64-52 victory over the Lawrenceville Indians. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

The Shoes will play Carterville Friday night at 7:00 for the sectional championship and the right to advance to the Carbondale 2A Super-Sectional Tuesday night. Carterville reached the championship game with a 69-57 victory over the Fairfield Mules this past Tuesday night. Hear tonight's game on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

The win was also the 200th career win for Wooden Shoes Coach Andy Fehrenbacher in just eight seasons.

The game was hardly a textbook performance by either team, with Teutopolis throwing the ball away far too much and Lawrenceville unable to throw it in the proverbial ocean. The Shoes still led 16-12 after one quarter and a 13-5 second quarter edge put the Shoes in front by 12, 29-17, heading into halftime.

The second half began with a determined push by Lawrenceville to get back into the game. The Indians trimmed the deficit to 37-32 after three quarters, and got to within two points in the final quarter, but the Shoes regrouped to outscore Lawrenceville 27-20 in the fourth quarter to account for the 12-point victory.

Teutopolis shot 46% from the field, making 21 of 46 attempts. T-Town also made 19 of 29 foul shots, turned the ball over 19 times and grabbed 35 rebounds. T-Town was three of 10 on three-point tries.

Lawrenceville had a woeful shooting night, making just 16 of 52 shots from the field for 31%.  The Indians made 20 of 32 foul shots, committed 16 turnovers, and pulled down 30 rebounds while missing all 11 of its three-point attempts.

Tyler Gebben led Teutopolis in scoring with 16 points, while Brett Mette had another double-double, scoring 10 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. The other scorers: Devin Smith 10, Michael Drees nine, Austin Johnson eight, Brock Mette six, Jordan Thoele three, and Kyle Smith two points.

Harry Loeb led Lawrenceville with 16 points while Jordan Shick added 13 points.

Teutopolis improved to 26-4 on the season, while Lawrenceville saw a 14-game winning streak snapped to finish the season with a 22-6 record.
