Olney Advances in 3A Effingham Regional, 1A, 2A Sectionals Tonight

Olney High School advanced in the Class 3A Effingham Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.

The Tigers claimed a 48-31 win over Salem. Olney advances to face Centralia tonight in the opening game at 6. The second contest features Effingham against Mount Vernon at 7:30 p.m. The winners meet Friday for the regional title contest at 7 p.m.

Olney edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead and led 16-14 at halftime. Olney then had a 32-17 second half run. The Tigers were led by Nohren with 18 points and Eagleson with 11.

Salem was led by Boles with nine points.

The regional winner advances to the Carbondale Sectional next Tuesday against the winner of the Metropolis Massac County Regional.

In other Class 3A regionals, Mount Zion won over Paris 61-42 in its own regional while Mattoon downed Charleston 59-44 in the Chatham Glenwood Regional.

Class 1A, 2A Sectionals

The Class 1A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional gets underway tonight with Nokomis taking on Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 7 p.m.

Wednesday's game features Casey-Westfield against Patoka at 7 p.m. The winners then advance to the championship game Friday night at 7 p.m.

In the Class 2A Benton Sectional, Carterville faces Fairfield at 7 p.m. today.

Teutopolis will take on Lawrenceville at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The winners then will meet for the championship Friday at 7 p.m.

Tickets for Teutopolis' Wednesday game will be sold today in this order:

9 a.m. -- Tournament players, managers and cheerleaders

9:15 a.m. -- Non-tournament boys basketball players

9:30 a.m. -- Girls basketball players

10 a.m. -- Pomerettes

Lunch hour -- Students

1-3 p.m. -- Qualified staff

4-5 p.m. -- Gold  Seat holders then general public. No admittance to the THS building until 3:45 p.m. All tickets are $5 each and are general admission seating.
