Queen of the Hill Contestants Decided

BLOOMINGTON -- Several area girls basketball players competed in the Country Companies Three-Point Showdown Thursday at Illinois State University's Redbird Arena.

Neoga's E.C. Thies competed in Group 2 of the Class 1A Queen of the Hill and knocked in seven. But it was a tough group as the top four who made it hit 10 or more.

Advancing were Mikah Maple, a junior of Moweaqua Central A&M, with 10, Shayne Smith, a sophomore of Hume Shiloh, with 10, Haley Hoekstra, a junior of Flanagan-Cornell, with 10 and Arieal Scott, a freshman from Danville Schlarman, with 11.

Also competing from the area were Taylor Jordan (Moweaqua Central A&M) who hit five, Christonia Saddler (Sandoval) who hit seven and Taytum Murdock of Woodlawn who hit five.

In Class 2A, Lexi Devries, a sophomore from Bryon, put in 12 to advance, Lizbeth Delgado, a junior from Chicago Cristo Rey Jesuit, put in nine, Zanna Myers, a freshman from Monticello, hit eight then hit five in the tiebreaker and six more in the second tirebreaker. Lexi Steele, a sophomore from Carlyle, hit eight and six in the tiebreaker.

Tessa Laino of Robinson hit eight and lost in the tiebreaker with three and Kelsie Ferrell of Lawrenceville hit five.

The Queen of the Hill in Class 1A finals will be contested at approximately 1:45 p.m. today while the Class 2A will take place at approximately 8:15 tonight.
