Altamont, T-town Advance In Boys Regionals

STRASBURG -- Altamont High School opened play in the Class 1A Stewardson-Strasburg Boys Basketball Regional by edging Beecher City 52-50 in the first game of the evening.

The Indians edged out to a 14-11 opening quarter lead and led 25-21 at halftime over the Eagles. Altamont had a 13-8 third quarter run and headed into the final period with a 38-29 lead. Beecher City mounted a comeback with a 21-14 run, only to fall short.

Armstrong led three players in double figures for Altamont with 16 points. K. Wolff tallied 11 and Cornett 10.

Beecher City was led by Rexroad with 20 and Randall with 11.

In the second contest, Nokomis ended Cowden-Herrick's season with a 64-45 victory.

Nokomis stepped out to an 18-7 opening quarter lead and led 26-19 at halftime. Nokomis then had a 16-7 third quarter run.

Burrus led Cowden-Herrick with 17 points while Pasley chipped in with 11.

Altamont and Nokomis will square off for the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 2A Marshall Regional

Top-seeded Teutopolis advanced to the championship game of the Marshall Regional by bouncing Pana 76-31 Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes leaped out to a 19-7 opening quarter lead and contrinued that run with a 22-8 second period charge.

Four players hit double figures and 11 players scored in the contest for the Shoes. Hardiek tallied 15 points while Gebben added 12, D. Smith 10 and Mette 10. Brett Mette had nine rebounds and Gebben seven. Thoele and Blake Mette added six boards each.

T-town advances to the title game with a 23-4 record and will face either Marshall or Shelbyville at 7 p.m. Friday. Those two teams play tonight.

Class 1A Oblong Regional

In the second game of the evening at the Oblong Regional, Casey-Westfield defeated Neoga 61-46.

The Warriors held a 17-14 opening quarter lead then had a 15-4 second period run. Three players hit double figures for Casey-Westfield, Carver with 17, Lawrence with 13 and Hollensbe with 11.

Neoga had even scoring as Baker, C. Kersey and Moore tallied 12 points each. The Indians end the season at 3-26.

Newton saw its season come to a close with a 70-40 loss to Flora in the Lawrenceville Regional Tuesday evening.

The Wolves leaped out to a 22-4 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one. Pearce tallied 21 points while Smith added 17 and Leib 10 for the winners.

Newton was led by Vahling with 11 points.

Flora advances to meet top-seeded Lawrenceville at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by Mount Carmel against Robinson at 7:30.

South Central saw its season come to a close with a 61-44 loss to Patoka in the Odin Regional Tuesday evening.

In the opening contest, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran defeated Sandoval 68-55.

In the second game, Patoka edged out to a 9-6 opening quarter lead then had a 13-8 second period run. J. Cain scored 20 while Belcher added 15, T. Back 12 and S. Cain 10 for the winners.

Brett Harmerier scored 20 points for South Central while Drevonte Hill chipped in with 10. The Cougars finish the season with a 10-18 record.

Class 1A Red Hill (Bridgeport) Regional

Cisne and Red Hill (Bridgeport) picked up victories Tuesday evening in the Red Hill (Brdigeport) Regional.

Cisne won the opener 59-41 over Clay City. The second game went to Red Hill over North Clay (Louisville) 73-54.

Cisne advances to face top-seeded Edwards County (Albion) tonight at 6 followed by Red Hill against No. 2 Grayville at 7:30.
