Dieterich will take on St. Anthony Thursday night for the championship of the Dieterich Class 1A Girls Regional Tournament.

Dieterich won over Altamont 51-41 and St. Anthony defeated Brownstown/St. Elmo 47-35 in semifinal games Wednesday night to advance to the championship game. The contests were heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

Altamont had the lead through almost the entire first half in the first contest. The Indians were up 10-8 after one quarter and had a three-point lead until just before halftime when Dieterich's Mallorie Vahling caught an inbounds pass just her side of midcourt and lined drived a shot in to tie the game at intermission 19-19.

The basket seemed to fire up Dieterich, who outscored Altamont 15-9 in the third quarter to hold a 34-28 lead and then outscored the Indians 17-13 in the final quarter to post the 10-point win.

Dieterich and Altamont both hit 46% of their shots from the field; Dieterich 22 of 48, Altamont 19 of 41. Dieterich made six of 12 foul shots, while Altamont got just two foul shots in the game and made them both. A big statistic was turnovers; Altamont committed 17 to just eight for Dieterich. Altamont had a 22-21 rebound edge, and each team made one three-point shot, Dieterich in nine tries, Altamont in seven attempts.

Vahling posted a double-double for Dieterich, 19 points and 11 rebounds. Elizabeth Abbott scored 12 points, Courtney Flach had 11 points, Anna Shadle seven, and Kallee Heuerman two.

Elizabeth Biggs led Altamont with 18 points, while Keidron Duckwitz and Brooke Burns each scored 10, and Carly McHugh had three points.
