VIDEO: Wooden Shoes Thump Bulldogs; Other Friday Scores

In a battle of two old rivals, the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes posted a 64-34 win over the St. Anthony Bulldogs Friday night at J.H. Griffin Gym.

The game was close early with several lead changes, and the Shoes held an 11-7 lead after one quarter. That's when the roof caved in for the Bulldogs, though. 

Teutopolis scored the first 19 points of the second quarter to take a 30-7 lead and the game was for all intents and purposes over. St. Anthony did score the final four points of the quarter to make it 30-11 at halftime.

The Shoes pushed the lead to 30 in the third quarter and led 47-22 at the end of the period, and outscored the Bulldogs 17-12 in the final stanza to win by 30.

Teutopolis had a great night shooting the ball hitting 71% from the field, 22 of 31, including six of 10 three-point shots. The Shoes also shot well from the line, making 14 of 18. T-Town did turn the ball over 18 times to 15 for St. Anthony, but the Shoes posted a 23-7 rebounding edge.

The Bulldogs made 12 of 34 shots, 35%, and made nine of 16 foul shots, 56%. St. Anthony made just one of 10 three-point tries.

The Wooden Shoes featured a balanced attack, as follows: Brett Mette 13, Brock Mette 12 (all in the second quarter), Devin Smith, Tyler Gebben and Mitch Hardiek eight apiece, Jordan Thoele six, Kyle Smith four, Michael Drees three, and Blake Mette two.

Nick Grunloh had 10 points to lead St. Anthony, Kyle Hartke six, Jeff Niebrugge and Braden Puckett five each, Connor Greene and Derek Rios three apiece, and Andrew Gardewine two.

Teutopolis posted their 20th win of the season against four losses, while St. Anthony dropped to 15-9.

Teutopolis won the JV game 70-56. For the JV Shoes: Mitch Hardiek 15, Blake Mette 14 and Carson Hartke 10. For the JV Bulldogs: Cade Walsh 12, Adam Levitt 11, and Alex Beesley 10.
