Effingham claimed two wins over Mount Vernon in freshman/sophomore boys basketball competition Thursday evening.

The Hearts won the freshman game 58-41 with a big 34-9 halftime lead. Mason Hull scored 12 and Brett Koester 10 for the winners.

In the sophomore contest, Effingham claimed a 52-43 victory. The Hearts took a 14-3 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Trevor Kreke scored 22 for the Hearts while Kyle Morrow added 13.

At Neoga

St. Anthony advanced in the Neoga Tournament with a 65-51 win over Altamont Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs led 28-24 at hafltime and 46-42 going into the final quarter. St. Anthony then had a 19-9 run to put the game on ice.

Drew Gibson scored 17 while Jack Nuxoll added 16 and Alex Beesley 13 for the Bulldogs.
