T-town, Newton St. Thomas Win Seventh-Grade Sectionals

Teutopolis won the Class 7-1A Sectional and will now head to the state tournament at Wenona Fieldcrest Saturday.

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis Junior High School won a squeaker to claim the Class 7-3A Teutopolis Sectional Wednesday evening and is headed to the state tournament.

T-town trailed Marshall 9-5 after the opening quarter but came back to take a 17-15 halftime lead. Marshall then edged ahead 28-27 going into the final quarter. T-town came back with a 7-5 run to pulll out the 34-33 victory.

Mitch Hardiek and Mitch Hemmen provided the scoring punch for the Wooden Shoes with 13 and 12 points respectively.

T-town will now face Markham Robert Frost at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Class 3A State Tournament at Wenona Fieldcrest. In the opening contest Saturday, Farmington Central will meet Germantown Hills at 10 a.m. followed by the T-town contest. Gillespie will meet the winner of Sectional 2 at 1 p.m. Rushville Schuyler Industry takes on St. Joseph at 2:30 p.m. The semifinals will be held at 5 and 6:30 p.m. The third place game will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 and the championship at 7:30 p.m.

Class 7-1A Palestine Secitonal

Newton St. Thomas captured the championship of the Palestine Sectional Thursday. St. Thomas defeated Mulberry Grove 32-30.

St. Thomas advances to the 1A  State Tournament at St. Joseph Middle School Saturday against Joliet Laraway at 2:30 p.m. In the opening game, Sidell Jamaica takes on the winner of Sectional 7 at 10 a.m. Lowpoint-Washburn faces Pontiac St. Mary's at 11:30. The 1 p.m. contest will feature winners from  Sectional 4 and Sectional 8. Those  sectionals were postponed Wednesday evening.

The winners advance to semifinal action at 5 and 6:30 p.m. The third place contest will be held Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. while the championship is set for 7:30 p.m.

 

Class 7-2A Assumption Central A&M Sectional

Effingham St. Anthony saw its season come to a close at the Assumption Central A&M Sectional.

The Bullpups fell to the host squad 55-41.

 

Class 7-4A Effingham Sectional

Urbana won the Effingham Sectional with a victory over Mattoon. Urbana was a 37-33 winner.
