Effingham Eighth-Grade Team Wins Regional, Scores

Effingham Junior High School claimed the championship of the Class 8-4A Effingham Boys Basketball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs edged Danville North Ridge 39-36. North Ridge took a 14-11 opening quarter lead and led 21-19 at halftime. The Mustangs had a 9-6 third quarter run to pull ahead 28-27. In the final quarter, the Mustangs had an 11-9 run. Effingham hit 44 percent from the field and 57 percent at the line.

Wolfe led the way with 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Bushur had six rebounds while Lee had two steals.

Effingham is now 20-2 on the season and will head to the Mahomet-Seymour Sectoinal Wednesday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. The Mustangs will face either Champaign Edison or Champaign Franklin. Those two teams play Thursday for the Rantoul Eater Regional title.

Class 8-3A Shelbyville Moulton Regional

Teutopolis advanced to the championship game of this regional with a victory.

T-town took a 24-13 halftime lead and went on for a 40-32 win over Blue Mound Meridian in the first game Tuesday evening. Dawson Smith led T-town with 14 points. Noah Probst added seven.

T-town improves to 14-9 and will play Shelbyville Moulton, a 48-30 winner over Pana, Thursday evening at 6 for the championship.

Class 8-2A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional

Nokomis was a 36-28 winner over Assumption Central A&M in the first game Tuesday evening of this regional.

The second game went to Cowden-Herrick who edged Raymond Lincolnwood 31-30.

Cowden-Herrick will now face Nokomis at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Two games were contested Tuesday evening but no scores have been reported. Mulberry Grove faced Sorento while Windsor took on Pana Sacred Heart.
