Dieterich Claims 2nd NTC Tourney Title in Three Seasons; Full Results & Video From the Final Day of the 2015 NTC Tournament

The Dieterich Movin Maroons are the 2015 National Trail Conference Tournament champions.

Top-seeded Dieterich pushed their season record to 23-0 with a 59-37 victory Saturday night over the #2 seeded St. Anthony Bulldogs. The game, like the other 13 conference tournament games this week, was broadcast on 979XFM with live video and audio streaming online via our You Tube Channel.

Dieterich exploded out of the gate both offensively and defensively and led 14-1 after one quarter. Despite St. Anthony getting untracked in the second quarter, the Maroons pushed the advantage to 19 at halftime, leading 35-16. St. Anthony made one big run in the third quarter, pulling to within seven points before Dieterich regrouped and pushed the lead back to 15, 47-32 by the end of the period. Dieterich outscored St. Anthony 12-5 in the fourth quarter to win by 22.

Dieterich made 38% of its shots, hitting 15 of 40, including four of 13 three-point shots. The Maroons took care of business at the line, making 25 of 31 foul shots. The Maroons turned the ball over just 10 times and grabbed 26 rebounds.

St. Anthony made 14 of 49 shots, 29% from the field, including four of 14 on three-point tries. The Bulldogs made just five of 12 free throws, turned the ball over 18 times, and pulled down 33 rebounds.

Dieterich's Alex Bohnhoff scored 27 points to lead all scorers. Also for Dieterich: Nick Feldhake 13, all in the first half, Devin Aherin 10, Lance Niemerg and Travis Niemerg four each, and Clayton Campton two.

Nick Grunloh came off the bench to lead St. Anthony in scoring with 12 points, while Jeff Niebrugge added 11. Also for St. Anthony: Andrew Gardewine nine, James Kabbes four, and Derek Rios one.

With the loss, St. Anthony drops to 14-8.

 

Results from other games Saturday

THIRD PLACE GAME--SOUTH CENTRAL 59, ST. ELMO/BROWNSTOWN 47

South Central came back from down eight after the first quarter to win by 12. SEB led 16-8 after one quarter, but South Central outscored the Eagles 20-4 in the second quarter to lead 28-20 at halftime. South Central was up 42-33 after three quarters, and outscored SEB 17-14 in the fourth quarter.

South Central had a great shooting game, making 17 of 30 shots from the field. SEB starting fouling but South Central had a tough time taking advantage, making 23 of 44 for the game for 52%, including 11 of 25 in the fourth quarter alone. The Cougars turned the ball over 19 times, but grabbed 35 rebounds while making two of five three-point shots.

SEB made just 28% of its shots, 17 of 60, and made 13 of 21 foul shots. The Eagles turned the ball over just eight times, but also pulled down just 25 rebounds and missed all of their 16 three-point attempts.

Brett Harmeier scored 16 points to lead the Cougars, while Evan Langley scored 13 points with 10 rebounds and Dre Hill scored 12 points. Also for South Central: Noah Powless five, Jace Wilkins and Chase Riley four each, Dylan Brauer three, and Gavin Ratermann two.

Landon Feezel led SEB with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Brock Oberlink scored eight, Malachi Maxey, Cole Smithson, Kyle Hardimon and Lewis Brown each scored four points, and Klayton Kroll and Noah Flowers each scored two points.

South Central improved to 9-13, while SEB slipped to 8-14.

 

CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME--ALTAMONT 73, COWDEN-HERRICK 61

Another come-from-behind effort in this game, as Cowden-Herrick led 19-15 after one quarter and 37-36 at halftime, but Altamont outscored C-H 14-10 to lead 50-47 after three quarters and 23-14 in the final quarter to pull off the 12-point win.

Altamont made 42% of its shots, hitting 20 of 48 attempts. The Indians also made 26 of 32 foul shots, and overcame 23 turnovers with 36 rebounds while making seven of 17 three-point attempts.

Cowden-Herrick made 43% of its shots, making 21 of 49 and also making 13 of 18 from the foul line. 21 turnovers were a problem, but the Hornets claimed 24 rebounds and made six of 21 three-point tries.

Ryan Armstrong scored 22 points to lead Altamont, while Thomas Caravello scored 15 points and Klaiton Wolff scored 11 points. Also for Altamont: Brandon Hosick nine, Adam Mayhaus seven, Evan Cornett four, Eric Wolff three and Justin Goeckner two.

Konner Blackerby scored 14 points for Cowden-Herrick, Dylan Barnes 13, and Colton Burrus 12. Also for C-H: Trey Pasley eight, Kyle Black five, Micah Sandiford four, Colton Sphar and Carson Lorton two each, and Aaron Nohren one.

Altamont is now 15-6 on the season, while Cowden-Herrick is now 12-9. 

 

SEVENTH PLACE GAME--STEWARDSON-STRASBURG 59, WINDSOR 45

Once again, a comeback win; Windsor was up 13-7 after one quarter and 26-25 at halftime. The Comets gained the lead 40-34 after three quarters and outscored the Blue Devils 19-11 in the final quarter to seal the win.

Aaron Blythe had a huge game for Stew-Stras, scoring 28 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Also for Stew-Stras: Mark Jones 11, Josh Overbeck eight, Ted Kessler six, and Austin Rincker and Chase Thies three each.

Three players scored all of Windsor's points; Tristan Warner 18, Nic Hutchinson 16, and Mitch Haddock 11.

Stew-Stras made 21 of 57 shots for 37%, added 14 of 24 from the line, turned the ball over 10 times, and grabbed 34 rebounds while making three of 12 three-point shots.

Windsor made 14 of 45 shots for 31%, adding 10 of 16 from the line, turning the ball over 13 times and grabbing 22 rebounds while making seven of 26 three-point tries.

St. Rep. John Cavaletto of Salem journeyed to the tournament Saturday night to read a proclamation approved by the Illinois General Assembly marking the 80th anniversary of the NTC Tournament, helped hand the scholarship plaques and spoke ahead of the announcement of the All-Tournament Team.
