TOLONO UNITY -- Effingham could not overcome a cool shooting night, falling to Danville North Ridge 42-35 in semi-final action at the Class 7-4A Tolono Unity Boys Basketball Regional Monday evening.

The game was close at halftime with Danville holding a 14-13 lead. Danville extended that lead to six at the end of the third quarter when they hit a last second three-pointer. Despite scoring 13 in the final period and getting the score tied at 30, Danville pulled away mainly by hitting eight of 10 free throws to seal the victory.

Effingham was led by Kyle Nohren with 10 points, Sam Thompson with five rebounds and Luke Spencer and Tate Niebrugge with two steals each.

"We ended with a 7-10 record and lots of growth," said Coach Mike Walker. "I would like to thank the parents and fans for all your support this season."

In the opening game, Mattoon downed Charleston 37-15.

Mattoon and Danville North Ridge will now meet for the championship Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg and Windsor picked up victories in action Monday evening and will face each other tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Windsor, seeded second, defeated Sorento 30-17 in the game opener.

Iin the second contest, Stew-Stras took a 23-10 first half lead and went on for a 30-22 win over Beecher City.

Kirby tallied 13 and Jesgarz 12 for the winners. Doty led Beecher City with 12.

In the opener tonight, Mulberry Grove faces Pana Sacred Heart at 6.

Class 7-1A Mulberry Grove Regional

Class 7-2A Assumption Central A&M

Ramsey and Findlay Okaw Valley moved forwards in the Assumption Central A&M Regional Monday evening.

Ramsey edged Raymond Lincolnwood 35-31 in the opener. In the second game, Findlay Okaw Valley won over Cowden-Herrick 31-9.

Games Wednesday feature Assumption Central A&M against Ramsey at 6 p.m. followed by Nokomis facing Findlay Okaw Valley at 7:15.

 

Class 7-3A Sullivan Regional

Shelbyville Moulton advanced in the Sullivan Regional by downing Arthur 31-20 Monday evening.

In the second game, Blue Mound Meridian was a 35-14 winner over Sullivan.

Shelbyville Moulton advances to face Teutopolis at 6 p.m. today while Blue Mound Meridian squares off against Pana at 7:15.

 

Class 7-3A Casey-Westfield Regional

Jasper County saw its season come to a close in the Casey-Westfield Regional. Jasper County fell to top-seeded Marshall 43-11.

In the second contest, Robinson Nuttall won over Lawrenceville Parkview 52-47.

Marshall will now meet Robinson Nuttall at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the championship.
