Effingham High School picked up both victories in freshman/sophomore boys basketball competition against Charleston Thursday evening.

The Hearts won the freshman contest 48-34. EHS took a 26-13 halftime lead. Ryan Sandifer tallied 15 points for the winners while Mason Hull added 14.

In sophomore action, Effingham won 56-47 with a big first half run. The Hearts led 33-19 at halftime and were outscored 28-23 in the second half.

Trevor Kreke scored 17 points to lead EHS while Kyle Morrow added 12.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony defeated Olney in sophomore competition Thursday evening, 50-29.

The Bulldogs held Olney scoreless in the opening quarter and led 27-8 at halftime. Alex Beesley scored 16 points, 10 coming in the third quarter. Jacob Schmidt added 10 points, all in the first half.
