Dieterich Continues To Roll, Area Boys Basketball Roundup

DIETERICH -- Dieterich High School is still unbeaten in boys basketball as the Movin' Maroons downed Oblong 68-58 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.

The Maroons stepped out to a 24-13 opening quarter lead. Oblong came roaring back with a 13-4 run to pull within 28-26 at halftime. Dieterich then came back with a 24-9 third period run to pull ahead 52-35 going into the final period.

Alex Bohnhoff tallied 22 points for the winners while Lance Niemerg tallied 17 and Devin Aherin 16. Dieterich is now 20-0 on the season.

Altamont picked up a National Trail Conference win over Beecher City, 59-42, Tuesday evening.

The Indians took a 25-18 halftime lead then had a 19-12 third period run. Three players hit double figures for Altamont. Klaiton Wolff tallied 17 while Ryan Armstrong added 16 and Adam Mayhaus 15.

Beecher City was led by Rexroad with 18.

St. Elmo/Brownstown trailed Windsor 7-6 after the opening quarter but took a 23-20 halftime lead then finished out with a 17-5 run for a 56-40 National Trail Conference victory.

Feezel scored 14 and Maxey 12 while Brown and Smithson added nine points each. Windsor was led by Warner with 20 points while Haddock added 11.

Patoka came calling and handed Cowden-Herrick a 76-68 loss Tuesday evening.

Patoka held a 20-14 first quarter lead but the Hornets rallied and pushed ahead 34-29 at halftime. But, Patoka came out with a 26-14 third quarter surge to lead 55-48 going into the final quarter then held that momentum for the win.

Cowden-Herrick was led by Burrus with 19 and Pasley with 16.

Neoga High School broke a two-season 20-game losing streak by beating South Central 47-37 Tuesday evening.

The Indians trailed South Central 11-9 after the opening quarter but came back to knot the score at 18-18 at halftime. Neoga then went ahead 31-30 going into the final quarter and ouitlasted the Cougars 16-7 for the victory.

Luke Baker scored 19 points for the winners while Corey Kersey added 10. Neoga is now 1-5 in the National Trail Conference, 1-19 overall.

South Central was led by Brett Harmerier with 18 points. The Cougars drop to 6-12 overall.

Flora claimed a Little Illini Conference win over Newton, 44-38 Tuesday evening.

The two teams were tied at 14-14 after one quarter before Flora moved ahead 23-22 at halftime. The Wolves then whipped out a 15-2 third period run and held off a Newton rally in the final quarter.

Newton was led by Brock Mammoser with 10 points and Kyle Vahling with eight.

Flora improves to 11-9 on the season.

Midland Trail Conference Tournament

The top four seeds all picked up wins Tuesday evening in the Midland Trail Conference Tournament.

No. 1 Woodlawn defeated Wayne City 63-40, No. 4 Waltonville downed Webber Township (Bluford) 52-45, No. 2 Odin edged Grayville 69-63 and No. 3 Cisne beat Sandoval 78-72.

The tournament continues tonight in consolation bracket action as Wayne City faces Webber Township at 7 followed by Grayville taking on Sandoval at 8:30.
