BOYS BASKETBALL

FLORA -- Teutopolis edged Effingham St. Anthony 50-48 in the Flora Freshman Tournament Monday evening.

The Bulldogs held a 13-9 opening quarter lead and led 27-22 at halftime. T-town came roaring back with a 16-8 third period run to pull ahead 38-35. The Wooden Shoes then held off St. Anthony in the final quarter.

Hardiek scored 20 and Funneman 14 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Alex Beesley with 19.

At Mattoon

Effingham picked up two victories over Mattoon Monday evening.

The Hearts won the freshman contest 48-29. Ryan Sandifer scored 17 and Mason Hull 13 for the winners who held a 23-12 halftime lead.

In the sophomore contest, the Hearts edged Mattoon 72-68.

EHS held a three-point lead going into the final period and had a 13-12 edge for the four point winning margin. Trevor Kreke hit 29 points while Corey Osborn tallied 15, Mason Hull 12 and Kyle Morrow 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Effingham split with Mattoon in freshman/sophomore play Monday.

Mattoon claimed the freshman contest 39-23. Effingham held an 8-5 first quarter lead before Mattoon came back and held the Hearts scoreless for a 19-8 halftime lead.

Effingham was led by Barr with 14 points. The Hearts are now 5-5 on the season.

In the sophomore game, Effingham edged Mattoon 37-33. Mattoon led 18-16 at halftime. EHS then had a 21-15 second half run.

Conkling tallied 16 points for theh Hearts who improve to 5-4.

Tetuopolis picked up a freshman/sophomore victory over Pana Monday evening, 59-37.

T-town had a 14-2 second period run. Three players hit double figures for the Wooden Shoes. Marianna Hemmen scored 18 while Jolene Bueker added 12 and Macy Michels 10.
