Effingham St. Anthony captured victories over visiting Mattoon in junior high boys basketball competition Saturday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade encounter 36-27. St. Anthony led 15-11 at halftime and then had a 12-6 final period surge. Dust led the winners with 17 points while Tingley added 11.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony came back in the second half for a 30-23 win. The Bullpups held a one point lead at the half, 16-15 then had a 14-8 second half run. Brandenburger tallied nine for the winners.

At Effingham

Effingham used a good defensive effort and a balanced scoring attack to claim a 40-6 victory over visiting Casey-Westfield Saturday.

With the score 9-5 after one quarter, the Mustangs held the visitors to just one point the rest of the way. Kyle Nohren led in scoring with 11. The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 6-9 record. They will open post-season play Saturday at Tolono where they received the No. 3 seed in the regional.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham trounced Casey-Westfield 49-18 to improve to 13-2 on the season.

Wolfe tallied 27 points for the Mustangs and pulled down eight rebounds. Lee had five boards.

Effingham took a 16-5 first half lead and had a 21-2 final period run.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis split victories with Decatur Robertson in Saturday action.

In the seventh-grade contest, the Wooden Booties picked up a 47-28 win by taking a 28-12 halftime lead. Luke Ungrund scored 20 and Mitch Hardiek 13 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade contest, Robertson was a 55-43 winner. Robertson held a 23-20 first half lead then had a 32-23 second half. Tyler Runde scored 13 and Lucas Drees 10 for T-town.
