OLNEY -- Effingham Junior High School picked up two victories over Olney in boys basketball action Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs came away with a 44-21 victory in seventh-grade play. Tate Niebrugge led the way with a perfect seven for seven from the field and finished with 18 points. Niebrugge and Cameron Kalber each had four rebounds. Kyle Nohren contributed eight steals.

In eighth-grade play, the Mustangs took a 26-13 halftime lead behind the strength of a 9-0 second quarter. Wolfe tallied 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the winners. Jackson and Ballman had three steals each. Hagler added five boards.

EJHS lost Dylan Bushur to a severe ankle injury with a minute into the first quarter.

The Mustangs iprove to 11-1 on the season.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis splits victories with Mattoon. In seventh-grade play, T-town was a 38-22 winner with a 10-3 third period surge. Mitch Hardiek tallied 11 points for the winners.

In the eighth-grade contest, Mattoon picked up a 35-28 win. Mattoon held T-town scoreless in the second period to take a 16-8 first half lead. Dawson Smith led T-town with nine points.

At Dieterich

Dieterich claimed two wins over Stewardson-Strasburg. Dieterich had a 17-9 first half lead and held Stew-Stras scoreless in the final quarter for a 39-19 win in seventh-grade play.

Kuhl led with 14 points while Will added seven as Dieterich improved to 7-7 on the season. Stew-Stras was led by Kirby with 11. The Stars dropped to 4-13.

In eighth-grade aciton, Dieterich captured a 45-39 win for its first victory of the season against 10 losses. S. Bohnhoff scored 16 for the winners. Burton led Stew-Stras with 22 while Smith added 10 as the Stars fell to 1-12.

At Altamont

Jasper County and Altamont split victories. Altamont captured the seventh-grade contest by edging Jasper County 34-33. The score was knotted at 12-12 at halftime. Altamont edged ahead 12-10 in the third quarter then held off Jasper County.

Kollmann scored 19 to lead altamont. Cox led Jasper County with 14.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County won 39-25. Jasper County stepped out to a 20-9 first half lead. Conner Bierman scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Altamont was led by Alec  Biggs with 14 points.
