PANA -- Effingham St. Anthony Junior High School downed Pana Sacred Heart twice in boys basketball action Monday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest 43-20 by outscoring Pana Sacred Heart 33-8 over the second and third quarters. Dust tallied 13 points and Hoene added 10 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony was a 57-22 winner. Just as in the seventh-grade game, the Bullpups had big scoring quarters in the second and third periods. The Bullpups outscored Sacred Heart 41-12.

Mendella scored 16 and Brandenburger 14 for St. Anthony.

At Dieterich

Dieterich played host to Jasper County and claimed the seventh-grade contest 40-35 in overtime Monday evening.

Jasper County held a 14-12 halftime lead and led 25-22 going into the final quarter. Dieterich mounted a comeback with a 13-8 scoring run then pulled out the win in overtime. Derek Kuhl led in scoring with 15. Dieterich improves to 6-7. Jasper County was led by Tharp with 11 and Schafer with 10.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County stepped out to a 20-6 opening quarter lead and never looked back in a 51-30 victory. Travis Will led Dieterich with 10 points. The squad dropped to 0-10. Jasper County was led by Zak Finn with 18 points and four rebounds and Conner Bierman with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.

At Woodlawn

North Clay (Louisville), seeded fourth, captured a 41-33 win over Webber Township (Bluford) in the Junior Midland Trail Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

North Clay will now face Sandoval Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.

In the boys JMTC Tournament, the finals have been set at Cisne. South Central defeated St. Joe, 62-10, Clay City won over Noble 48-25, Cisne defeated Clay City 54-16 and North Clay downed South Central 52-39.

The finals will be Thursday with the consolation championship at 5:30 featuring St. Joe against Noble. The third place game is at 6:45 with South Central taking on Clay City. The championship will feature North Clay against Cisne at 8 p.m.

This will be the third meeting between North Clay and Cisne with Cisne winning the first two games. North Clay is playing in its third straight JMTC championship game. Cisne won the conference with a perfect 10-0 record ending North Clay's two year run of 10-0.
