Elks Hoop Shoot Winners Advance

Three boys and three girls, ages 8-13 years old, won first round competition in the Elks Hoop Shoot free throw contest held at Effingham High School last Saturday and have been named the local Effingham Elks Hoop Shoot champions.

There were 73 participants from the area schools, 33 girls and 40 boys. First three places were awarded trophies in each age categories: ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. All of the participants received Elks National freebie, Culvers ice cream and Dairy Queen coupons. Raffle prizes were donated by Prime Sole, Wal-mart, Niemerg’s and State Farm.

The six champions will now advance to the East Central District Hoop Shoot Contest which will be held Sunday, January 4 at Paris High School. Check-in time starts at 1:30 p.m. with the shoot to start at 2 p.m.

FIRST PLACE FINISHERS

12-13 Year-Olds

The 23nd Annual Doris (Cane) Zerrusen plaque was given to Natalie Carie of Effingham for making the most free throws of all girl participants at the local Elks “Hoop Shoot.” Carie made 18 of 25 free throws. The plaque was given out by Doris Zerrusen. There were 33 participants.

The 9th Annual Taylor Worman plaque was given to Brayden Will of Teutopolis for making the most free throws of the 40 boys participants by making 23 out of 25 free throws at the local Elks “Hoop Shoot”. Taylor Worman’s father gave out his award.

Zerrusen was a past National Champion of the Elks Hoop Shoot in 1982 and Worman was in 2001 and 2004.
