NEWTON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School held Newton to 26 points while taking a 44-26 non-conference boys basketball win Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs edged out to an 8-4 opening quarter lead but held only a one point lead at halftime. St. Anthony then pushed ahead 32-19 going into the final quarter.

Andrew Gardewine, a 6-foot-4 senior, led St. Anthony with 14 points. Also in double figures was junior Kyle Hartke with 11.

Newton didn't have a player in double figures. Mammoser led the way with nine points.

At Casey

Casey-Westfield picked up a 64-48 non-conference win over Neoga Tuesday evening.

The Warriors held a 30-21 halftime lead then had a 34-27 second half run. Dylan Lawrence scored 20 and Cody Hollensbe 17 for the winners. Neoga was led by Corey Kersey with 14 points and Luke Baker with 11.

The Indians drop to 0-10 on the season.

Charleston had a 30-15 first half run on Cumberland and went on for a 54-43 non-conference victory. The Pirates cut the lead down to seven points but Charleston had put up a big opening half and held on.

Cumberland was led by Houston Napier with 18 and Brandon Shaon with 12. The Pirates drop to 3-6 on the season.

Charleston was led by Will Stader with 15 and Mitch Huddleston with 13. The Trojans improve to 3-5.
